Gary Youth Snow Corps

Winter's tough for everyone here in the City of Gary, especially our elderly and physically disabled residents who may not be able to remove snow from their sidewalks and walkways.  Gary Youth Snow Crops aims to help by pairing volunteers with eldery and disabled citizens who need help.

Sign up for Assisance!

Seniors and people with disabilities can register to be matched with a volunteer to shovel their walkways.  Call the Citizen's Info Desk at 881-1300 to be placed on the list!

Adult Volunteers Needed!
Bring an extra shovel and help teach a young person how to shovel snow and develop a mentoring relationship.  Call the Gary YSB, 886-7099 for more information.

Bus Stop Shoveling Alert!
Snowfall can make access to bus stops difficult for seniors, those with disabilities and/or those using walkers or wheelchairs. If there is a GPTC bus stop within a block or two of your home, please consider shoveling teh bus stop(s) to increase accessiblity for those who rely on public transportation.

Please note: We are recruiting volunteers to serve citizens who are unable to clear their sidewalks after a snow storm.  The City of Gary does not clear sidewalks in front of private homes.  Registering with the program does not guarantee snow removal.  Snow removal is only provided as volunteers are available.
